BEGINNING TEACHERS
Form B: Mentor/Mentee Log Orientation to School Procedures Checklist Getting the Most from Mentoring
Beginning Teacher: A teacher who has no prior teaching experience and is new at his/her profession.
Responsibilities:
- Meet regularly with the mentor. You should meet with your mentor once per week August through September and once per month October through May.
- Attend monthly Teacher Development Programs, complete reflection, and turn in to mentor.
- Cooperate with your mentor.
- Beginning Teacher Mentor: An experienced teacher dedicated to promoting excellence in the teaching profession. Mentors must play several roles including guide, role model, sponsor, counselor, coach, resource, and colleague.
- Observe mentor three times throughout the school year:
- First observation by September 16.
- Second observation by October 14.
- Third observation by December 9.
Beginning Teacher Mentor: An experienced teacher dedicated to promoting excellence in the teaching profession. Mentors must play several roles including guide, role model, sponsor, counselor, coach, resource, and colleague.
Responsibilities:
- Meet regularly with your mentee, both formally and informally. You should meet with your mentee once per week August through September and once per month October through May.
- Guide your mentee through the daily operations of the school. Refer to Orientation to School Procedures Checklist for guidance.
- Attend monthly Teacher Development Programs, review reflection paper of mentee and turn in to mentor chair and principal.
- Arrange for:
- Mentee observations of Mentor:
- First observation by September 16.
- Second observation by October 14.
- Third observation by December 9.
- Mentor observations of Mentee:
- First observation between November 1 and November 11.
- Second observation between January 9 and January 20.
- Mentee observations of Mentor:
- Be a role model in all aspects of professionalism. Become familiar with Getting the Most From the Mentoring Relationship.
- Support and counsel your mentee, providing perspective when needed.
- Help your mentee develop a Professional Development Plan on NEE.
- Keep a Mentor/Mentee Log. The Mentor/Mentee Log must be turned in to the Mentor Coordinator by May 1. (See Form B)
Stipend: A stipend of $300.00 is to be paid in June to the Mentor upon completion of responsibilities.
